2008 Sees Union Membership Grow - View Summary of NLRB Election Results

2008 saw union membership jump to 12.4 percent of the nation’s work force, amid widespread job losses.  Organized labor ranks rose by some 428,000 workers in 2008, the largest gain since the government began compiling such data in 1983. It was also the second year in a row that unions added to their ranks. The Teamsters had its most successful organizing year in decades. 

 

The good news is that public sector unions accounted for most of the 2008 increase.
